Sat, Feb 13

We'll start out our adventure at 2pm with one of the most traditional and outrageous hallmarks of Rio Carnival: the Ipanema Street Band.  Thousands of people gather at Ipanema Beach every year to watch and dance along with this famous gay and transvestite samba school.  You won't believe some of the costumes!  After the festivities, we'll visit Ipanema Beach and then head out to dinner for some traditional Brazilian cuisine.  After dinner, we can head downtown and to the neighborhood of Lapa for more dancing and partying at bloco processions and public balls.

Sun, Feb 14

This morning we'll head out on our first city tour, visiting the Christ Statue, Sugarloaf Mountain, San Sebastian Cathedral, the Maracana soccer stadium, and some of the historical buildings in downtown Rio.  Evening free - your guide can point you to optional parties and parades.

Mon, Feb 15

Today we'll go on our second city tour, cruising across Guanabara Bay, visiting a favela, looking for monkeys in Tijuca Forest, and finishing up at Rio's Botanical Gardens.  In the evening, after dinner, we'll head to the Sambodrome Stadium for a full night of incredible samba and parades.

Tues, Feb 16

Morning free, then in the afternoon we'll visit the old cobblestone district of Santa Teresa, the Copacabana Fort, and Penha Church.  After dinner we'll attend one of the famous Scala Balls to round out our Carnival experience.
