Stunning Andean landscapes and
mysterious archaeological ruins make South America one of the world's most rewarding
places to trek. All of our trips take in amazing scenery, Inca
roads
and fascinating Inca sites, thus appealing to fans of trekking,
history, and archaeology alike. And don't worry if you don't scale
mountains every weekend - our trips are designed to be accessible to the
average, healthy person, not just the serious trekker and camper. We take
plenty of time to get where we're going, and our team of cooks, porters and
packhorses will do the camp work and carry the load,
freeing you up to fully enjoy the sites and vistas unfolding before you.

Is it possible that in its setting and unbelievable vistas,
Choquequirao is equal to or even more beautiful than Machu Picchu? As you sit on the
small hill perched above this ancient city, watching wisps of cloud fly by
at arm's length and condors soar high above, with snow-capped peaks all
around and the Apurimac River raging over a mile below you, we think
you'll agree. Choquequirao, often called Machu Picchu's sister
city, is the most remote of the major Inca sites, and
no doubt the fact that one must walk for two days to arrive there has kept
it from achieving the fame it so deserves. But it is this remoteness which
keeps it so pristine, with orchids and other flora in abundance and the
definite possibility of seeing condors along the trail. It is
truly one of the world's special places, and we are immensely proud of the
opportunity to share it with you. Besides the trek to Choquequirao, our trip
includes one day in Cuzco, one day in the Sacred Valley, one day in Lima, and two days
within the Machu Picchu sanctuary.

Just like
the name says, this is truly the ultimate Andean trekking
experience. We'll spend nine stunning days of this trip traversing old Inca roads
in the remote Vilcabamba region of Peru, exploring seldom-visited and
forest-clad ruins; spotting
condors, Andean eagles and countless varieties of orchids and other
flora; taking in the most magnificent vistas and landscapes of arguably
any trek in South America; and finally arriving at the Sacred City
itself, Machu Picchu, for a full day of exploration and discovery.
This is one of the most rewarding and exciting outdoor experiences to be
had in South America, yet is completely accessible to the average
healthy person. Many of our former passengers had done very little
or no trekking before this trip but enjoyed it immensely. Our days
are not long, averaging five hours of walking, so there is plenty of
time to relax and enjoy this magnificent adventure.

Our high
Andes adventure begins in Bolivia, known to many as the "Tibet
of the Americas."
Like its Asian cousin, Bolivia is high, landlocked, ancient and
esoteric. La Paz, where we begin our trip, is a
city of stunning contrasts where ancient Indian women hawk
strange herbs in the shadow of modern skyscrapers. From La
Paz, we'll cross the barren and windswept altiplano to
arrive at Lake Titicaca, where we'll take a launch to the site
of the Inca creation myth on the Island of the Sun. After
a night by the lake shore, we'll travel to the village of
Millipaya and the start of our high altitude trek.
Accompanied by llamas and packhorses to carry our things, we'll
climb to the rooftop of the world, a pristine glacier lake at
over 5,000 meters. Finally, we round out our adventure by
flying to neighboring Peru and visiting the archaeological jewel
of the continent, Machu Picchu.
